Are There really Aliens Out there?

Since the Big Bang billions of years have passed. There are billions of galaxies and uncountable numbers of stars and planets and yet we have no hard evidence of any intelligent life. For all of you aliens enthusiasts , I too believe that there is an intelligent life out there and we will eventually find out. I know it will take time but surely we will find out.

We know that the earth is around 4.5 billion years old and it already has seen extinction of one of its species(Dinosaurs) around 65 million years ago which is far recent as compared to earth's age. The appearance of first humans is even more recent between few hundred thousand to around a million years. In this life span we have developed so much that we have already sent rovers to other planets and many  satellites out in space. 

Fermi Paradox

In our own galaxy itself, Astronomers estimates that there are around 300 - 400 million planets who possess earth like habitat and which are far more older than our earth. With so many possible planets where life can flourish and these planets being older than earth there’s no doubt that there will be some alien species that are intelligent than us, right? But where are they, this question is what we call the Fermi paradox. If there is an intelligent life form out there then where are they? No one has an answer to it. So, lets look into some ideas and solutions for this paradox. 

The first idea is that we are actually alone in this universe. There is a possibility that there is actually no alien life or if it is then they are not advanced enough to think of space travel or even have knowledge about the space. Which makes us the first civilisation to travel outside our planet. So all the messages were are sending out are getting unnoticed because no one have the technology to receive those messages or to decode them or there is an intelligent life form out there which is reading our messages and replying back but we are not advance enough to pick there messages. 

 Next theory is that intelligent form may know of our existence but we are neither a threat nor a subject of interest for them as we are not advanced enough for them. Lets take the example of small bugs around us which goes unnoticed everyday. We may be just like that for a more intelligent life, there but of no interest.

The Great Filter Theory

Then comes the great filter theory, according to this theory if there are so many planets in this universe just like earth and billions of years older then earth they there should be life and we should be able to see atlas something, but the universe seems d so there must be something preventing us to go beyond the step where we are now to meet other life forms. A filter so hard to overcome that civilisations cease to exists that encounters it. This is called the great filter . There are two scenarios here, the first one being that we are lucky and we have passed the filter. This is questionable that when did we passed that filter, maybe becoming complex organisms from single called organisms is so difficult that we were lucky enough to pass through and others perished while doing so. The other scenario is that we have yet to encounter the filter that may be the cause of our extinction. So if we were to find more civilisations and life forms around us then there is more chance that we have not encountered the filter yet which is more terrifying.

The Dark Forest Theory

Imagine that we are in a very dark forest. In this forest there is only one rule, that is to survive. So we have to do whatever it takes to survive including eliminating others who are a threat to us. Assuming there are others like us in the forest so upon contact we both will not know the true intentions of the other but we do know that if we attack first then they can’t which makes it the safest option. This is known as the Dark forest, a theoretical warning that we should not be looking for alien species because neither species can truly know if the other species came in peace or not. This may be the reason why space looks dead because there are only two kinds out the, The quite one’s and the dead ones.
